God seems to always give me revelation for a new message whenever my wife and I are having devotion. This one was a surprise, though! I have read and studied this parable back and forth, but I still didn’t see this mystery within it.
- The Lamps and the Oil
In Matthew 25:1-13, we read about the parable of the 10 virgins. Now, there are the wise virgins and the foolish virgins.
We can understand that, BUT, we begin to look at verses 1-2 and we can begin to see what beneath the surface, that they all went out with same purpose.
And we really need to pay attention to each verse in order to see what Jesus is telling us here. The lamps in this first verse represents the word of God.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”Psalm 119:105
They needed the LAMP to stay lit, in order to meet the bridegroom. In verse 3, Jesus tells us that the foolish virgins took no oil with them. They were depending on the old oil that we’ll soon find was running out.
This oil represents the word of God that was supposed to be in them, as well as the Holy Spirit. The oil mentioned in this parable and video, is also our faith in God’s word (oil in the lamp).
“You shall charge the sons of Israel, that they bring you clear oil of beaten olives for the light, to make a lamp burn continually.”Exodus 27:20
At one point the foolish virgins had oil, but they were not serious about making it last. These are the people that are not committed to Jesus, they’re devoted to the world, but they perpetrate in the Christian faith.
They don’t want to give up the world, but at the same time they need an insurance policy, for their souls. In verse 4-5, Jesus tells us that the wise virgin took oil in their vessels with their lamps. So not only did they take their lamps, but they were amply supplied with a vessel filled with oil.
These are those people in Christians who are filled with God’s word, who are the pillars of the faith, not just a mere Christian, but they produce a lot of fruit for God’s kingdom.
2. 10 Brides?
Now Jesus tells us that they all slept, while waiting for the bridegroom, but wait! 10 virgins for 1 bridegroom! Now this is where we get into the tricky area of understanding Jesus’ parable.
The groom can’t marry all those virgins, right! There is something to this! Here is one of the mysteries to this parable: the 5 foolish virgins represent 1 bride and the 5 wise virgins represent another bride.
This was incredible when God revealed this to me, but that wasn’t all, all 10 virgins represent the Church, but not all of those who are in the Church are the church. In verse 5 they all slumbered and slept.
Now I believe this is a time right now, where the church is weary from all the things that are happening in the world and we’re waiting on the Lord, but things have to get a little worse before Jesus returns, because it says He was delayed.
Some people are weary and defeat, yet others are weary, but still pressing into the kingdom of God.
3. The Cry at Midnight
Verse 6 says that “at midnight a cry was heard, telling the virgins to go out and meet the bridegroom. This call is very significant, I want you to take note of this point here. This is another mystery, the cry was heard at midnight, which is the darkest time of the night. When the bible mentions night it tend to mean a time of evil, usually not a good thing.
Like 1 Thessalonians 5:2-4,
For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. 3 When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.
4 But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. 5 For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.
1 Thessalonians says that, “people will be crying out peace and safety”, (sound familiar), but peace won’t come, only “destruction”. Be on watch and pray always. See this call, in Matthew 25:6, represents the voices that are telling the Church to get itself ready for the coming of the Lord.
There has been a change in many of the messages that are being preached today. Pastors and other preachers are getting their congregations ready for the Rapture.
In Revelation 3:22 Jesus says,
“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”
In verse 7, all of the virgins began to trim their lamps, why? They were trimming off the old, to light a new fire! It’s time for a new fire to burn in the people of God and it has already begun. It’s time for people to catch it!
This worldwide pandemic wasn’t a mistake, but a catalyst to jump-start the Church in a new direction. We have to see things through God’s eyes though. He’s in control why did He let this happen? His purpose is being revealed, look up.
4. The Foolish Will Be Unprepared For his Coming
But, in verse 8-9, we find the foolish virgins unprepared to meet the bridegroom and now they’re begging for oil from the five wise virgins, but this part tickles me a little because they were saying we only got enough oil for us we can’t carry enough for you too, you gotta get your own.
They were saying, “go for what you know!” I’m black and, so I heard this a lot when it was time for dinner and it was leftover night, my mom wasn’t wasting no food. You know the sad part is that the “foolish virgins”, didn’t even care to check when they knew they had to go meet the bridegroom.
People are taking this cry for repentance, this cry for returning back to their first love – Jesus, for granted. It’s easy to get desensitized to the word messages that you grew up on. People say, “Yeah, I know, but! Yeah, I know, but!” They don’t have to believe God’s message though, it just goes out as a witness and a testimony about Jesus Christ, then there are no more chances.
5. Who is The Chosen Bride?
In verse 10, they actually thought they would have enough time to buy oil at the last minute. What? The messenger already cried out. This is foolish, but people really believe they can wait until later to get serious about God.
So, while they were gone, the bridegroom showed up and Jesus said, “those who were ready went in with him to the wedding and the door was shut.”
When the foolish virgins came back to see that they miss his coming, they cried out Lord, Lord so that they could go in with them, in verse 11, but he rejected them by saying, “I don’t even know who you are!” Wow! The wise virgins, are the chosen bride.
This represents those who are faithful to God and remain in Jesus Christ, not those who come and go, and not those who no longer want anything to do with Jesus, they will all be shut out, but the chosen bride the faithful believers, will be with Jesus.
Let us be glad and rejoice,
and let us give honor to him.
For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb,
and his bride has prepared herself.
8 She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.”
For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.
9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.”Revelation 19:7- 9
6. Wedding Feast of The Lamb
We’re not just called into heaven, were called into a feast, with good food, come on now! But, as Revelation 19:7, said only those that have prepared themselves. As you can see there is more to this parable, than what meets the eye.
In the last verse, after the foolish virgins were begging for the bridegroom, who represents Jesus, to take them too, the bridegroom says,
12 But he called back, ‘Believe me, I don’t know you!’ Jesus is going to tell many people I don’t know you and some I never knew you.Matthew 25:12
Jesus is the way the truth and the life. He does not base His decisions on feeling, like human beings. “He’s not a man that he should, nor the son of man that He should repent.
He doesn’t base His decisions on people’s degrees, achievements, or how hard of a life they had. All of that is going to burn up. He cares about the decision you made to take up your cross and follow Him, through it all!
7. Keep Watch
13“So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.Matthew 25:13
