Don’t be afraid of them,” the Lord said to Joshua, “for they are already defeated! I have given them to you to destroy. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you.” Joshua 10:8

Today, we are looking at Joshua again. I personally love the book of Joshua and took a few weeks to study it. Since God’s Word is living and breathing, you can never really take everything there is to take. Every time you come back, there is something new to learn in those same scriptures.

Let’s dive in.

Joshua is going into a fierce battle with the Amorite kings. He is coming to aid his fellow neighbors in Gibeon, threatened by the kings.

God already had a plan, because He already knows what’s going on. Nothing ever escapes the Lords knowledge, He has already been fighting the battle for us, in the background.

You must remember that this is a spiritual battle. (link Prayer of Self Deliverance)

God tells Joshua, “Don’t be afraid of them, for they are already defeated! I have given them to you to destroy. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you.” Joshua 10:8

This is the best part:

“Joshua traveled all night from Gilgal and took the enemy armies by surprise. Then the Lord threw them into a panic so that the army of Israel slaughtered great numbers of them at Gibeon and chased the others all the way to Beth-horon and Azekah and Makkedah, killing them along the way.

As they fled before Israel on the road down from Beth Horon to Azekah, the Lord hurled large hailstones down on them, and more of them died from the hail than were killed by the swords of the Israelites.” Joshua 10:9-11

God is already fighting your battles everyone!

If you are a child of God, walking in obedience to the Lord Almighty, HE is fighting your battles!

Yes, He is throwing hailstones at our enemies and we don’t even know it. Praise the Lord!

Not only that, Joshua wanted to be sure there was pure victory, so he had the audacity to tell God,

“Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
So the sun stood still,
    and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on[b] its enemies…” vs.12-13

What! But yes!

“And the sun and the moon didn’t move until the Israeli army had finished the destruction of its enemies!  There had never been such a day before, and there has never been another since, when the Lord stopped the sun and moon—all because of the prayer of one man. But the Lord was fighting for Israel.” Vs. 13-14

God listened to Joshua because he was faithful and obedient to God. He went out with the Lord, He walked in Gods ways.

Let’s go down another road, a road of disobedience.

The Israelites refused to go to battle against the Amalekites and the Canaanites in the land the Lord had promised them. In fact, they grumbled and complained in their tents, thinking God did not hear them.

Yes, they had received a “bad report” from the Israelite spies who went to spy out the land. But God had promise to be with Moses.

When they grumbled and complained against the Lord, they also rejected His promise.

So, God’s ager was aroused against them, and He told Moses because of that, they would not enter the Promise Land, instead they would be doomed to walk mindlessly and aimlessly through the dessert for 40yrs.

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: 27 “How long will this wicked community grumble against me? I have heard the complaints of these grumbling Israelites. 28 So tell them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very thing I heard you say: 29 In this wilderness your bodies will fall—every one of you twenty years old or more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me.” (Numbers 14:26-29)

39  “When Moses reported this to all the Israelites, they mourned bitterly. 40 Early the next morning they set out for the highest point in the hill country, saying, “Now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised. Surely we have sinned!”

41 But Moses said, “Why are you disobeying the Lord’s command? This will not succeed! 42 Do not go up, because the Lord is not with you. You will be defeated by your enemies, 43 for the Amalekites and the Canaanites will face you there. Because you have turned away from the Lord, he will not be with you and you will fall by the sword.”

44 Nevertheless, in their presumption they went up toward the highest point in the hill country, though neither Moses nor the ark of the Lord’s covenant moved from the camp. 45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that hill country came down and attacked them and beat them down all the way to Hormah.” (Numbers 14:39-45)

When we disobey God, we cannot expect to be successful. We cannot expect God to fight our battles in our disobedience.

You will lose.

Will you walk in obedience today?

Let’s pray:

Father God, I know that you have a plan for my life. Lord help me to see what it is, and if I already know it, Lord help me to be obedient to your call. I want to walk in victory and not defeat. Lord strengthen the faith that you have given me, so that I might have the faith it takes to do the task you have given me. Thank you, Jesus.

In Jesus Christ Holy name, amen.

We hope today’s devotion has inspired you. We love you guys, and are constantly praying for you. Have a very blessed day.

Love,
