These donuts are the easiest donuts you will ever make. Seriously!
Opting to save time and have my girls in the kitchen with me, I wanted a fast recipe to make any type of donut I wanted.
The thing about these donuts is that you do not have to actually prepare anything before hand!
The secret is in the cake box! That is if you want a cake donut, and donuts might as well be cake!
When purchasing your cake mix, you can do either two things for this recipe, buy a spiced cake mix or buy white cake mix and add your spices.
we opted to buy two boxes of white gluten free cake mix with lower calories, and if you use the substitutions in my recipe, you can drastically cut the calories!
Try using any type of cake mix that goes along with your diet requirements.
To have a stiffer cake mix where you can make donut balls without a donut pan, try adding less wet ingredients, such as the water or you can stiffen it a little with flour. Add enough to get the consistency you are looking for to spoop into a ball.

Pumpkin Spiced Donuts

A very easy and delicious donut ready in minutes! Bake them with the kids.
- 1 Box Cake Mix (Choose your favorite cake mix! If you are doubling the recipe, use two boxes.)
- 2 tbsp Cinnamon
- 2 tbsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
- ¼ Cup Applesauce per egg (**Optional, this is an egg or oil replacement. If you don't want to use, follow the box cake mix directions. ***Calorie reducer!)
Spiced Box Cake Mix ONLY
- ¼ Cup Applesauce per egg (**Optional, this is an egg or oil replacement. If you don't want to use, follow the box cake mix directions. ***Calorie reducer!)
Prepare the boxed cake mix according to directions
If you do not have a donut pan and want donut balls instead, go light on the water until you get your desired consistency.
Omit the oil and eggs and add the applesauce if you are substituting, or just the eggs or just the oil.
Spoon the batter into your oiled donut pans or cookie sheet.
Bake at the directions of your cake box mix, inserting a toothpick to make sure the donut has baked thoroughly.
Allow the donut to rest before glazing them or adding powdered sugar.
For a simple and easy glaze, see my "simple glaze icing" recipe.
Enjoy your donuts!
If you need more donuts, double the batch requirements, and be sure to include my substitutions for a healthier spread.
Calories are based on replacements per 1 donut. The average cake mix makes 10 slices of cake. The basic cake mix is usually 180cals, and all extra ingredients besides water can be replaced with applesauce if desired!Â
Organic applesauce is usually 1 cal per 1/4 cup, a great egg and oil replacemet!
