“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” (John 15:14)

As Christians, we called are friends of God, and our job is to what please Him, and that is to carry out His will and devote ourselves to God’s word.

As a friend, you serve the other person, so that they are pleased. Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, He will dress Himself to serve, will have them recline at the table, and will come and wait on them.” (Luke12:37) Jesus is saying, “This is what I will do for you!”.

A friend tells you good news, and God has called us to make more friends with His gospel. Jesus said, “But I have called you friends, for all the things that I’ve heard from my father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15)

A friend lays down their life for their friends. Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for His friends.” (John15:13)

As Christians we dedicate our life to Christ. We die to ourselves, exchanging our will for Gods perfect will. You invest time in a true friend, and it’s something that you want to do, not an obligation. Which is the reason why God doesn’t force us, but CALLS us.

The scripture this week in the “Wisdom on Friendship: Friendship in The Book of Proverbs,” Proverbs 12:26 says, “The godly give good advice to their friends; the wicked leads them astray.” It’s not just what you say that leads a friend astray and causes you to sin, it’s also what you DON’T say. My friend is on his journey as a new Christian, and had the tendency to curse.

One day, the Holy Spirit prompted me to challenge Him on that. I was unconformable with the idea, because I didn’t want him to think that I was some stuck-up, legalistic Christian. However, the Holy Spirit told me, “What kind of a Christian and friend would you be, if you didn’t lead him to the truth and holiness?”

So, as a friend, dying to myself, I told him about Colossians 3:8 (filthy language). He appreciated my honesty, and he made a decision to work on that area of his life. A godly friend leads their friends to what is true, they do good serving their friends, and their feet are beautiful because they bring good news. (Isaiah 52:7, Romans 10:15)
