A certain man with an infirmity for 38 years was asked if he wanted to be made well. Instead of telling Jesus “yes,” right away, he gives an excuse, why he is still sick, why he hadn’t been healed.
(John 5:8-14)

It’s was everyone else’s fault, because they beat him to the water. His excuses showed his lack of faith. Didn’t Jesus just say, “Do you want to be made well?”. The answer to our prayers can be right in front of our faces. How many times have we missed the mark, allowed excuses to prevent us from being healed, or move forward in life. Jesus commanded him without wasting any time and said, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” The man was immediately made well and did as the Lord told him

The man had no idea who healed him, he never asked, nor thanked God.  Jesus found him later that day and told him, “See, you HAVE been made well. Sin no more, lest a WORSE thing come upon you. Jesus could have very well told the man this while he was being healed, but He wanted him to understand, that it was his own life that had him bound with his infirmity.

The sin in his life kept him sick for 38 years. Many times it takes a sickness or infirmity to bring people closer to God, and to help them see the sin in their own lives. Still, some are blinded and go back to what they used to do.

The Lord doesn’t want us to just think that we’ve made it saying, “This is it”! We go about our life doing our own thing, when God wants us to trust Him. The Lord wants us to have an ABUNDANT life in him (John 10:10) and will bless our obedience in him.
We don’t know what this man’s sins were, but Jesus shows us that with him, the impossible is made POSSIBLE. There are many people in this life who have a deep desire to do something, become entrepreneurs, parents, go for their dream job, or seek an education. There may be many odds stacked against them, but they are not willing to give up, searching every nook and cranny to make it happen.

How much more should we, as children of God?  When we walk in obedience to him, He says, “Ask and it shall be given to you, Seek and you shall find, Knock and the door shall be opened to you.” (Matt 7:7-8)

Philippians 4:10 says be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication. Be thankful to God and tell him what’s on your mind. He will give you His peace, which surpasses all understanding. If we are willing to decrease and let the Lord increase his spirit in us, then we will be blessed. He will open doors for us that no man can close and will close doors for us that no man can open; the devil has no power over us.

The Book of Revelation encourages us to be Overcomers, that’s who we are in Christ. As the psalmist says,

“You are my Lord, my goodness is nothing apart from you.” (Ps16:2) and “My choice is you God, first and only… You set me up with a house and yard… you made me your heir!” Ps16:5-6

The Lord doesn’t want us to be bogged down with sin. He wants us to work for Him and receive the blessings he has for our lives. We shall be blessed all the days of our life. Trust Jesus!

Search me, O God and know my heart, try me and know my anxieties, and see if there’s any wicked way in me. And Lead me in your way Everlasting. Let my prayer be set before you as incense, the lifting of my hands as the evening sacrifice.”

PS 141:2Thank you Jesus.

If you have not received Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, then do it now, and you will be a child of God and your citizenship will be in heaven with Jesus Christ!

Romans 10:9-10 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

SAY this beginning PRAYER:

God I’m a sinner and right now I turn from my sins. I ask you to forgive my sins, that I may be right with you. I believe that Jesus Christ: lived, died and that He rose from the dead. Right now, I ask you Jesus to be my Savior and Lord, that I may have eternal life in heaven. Thank you God for saving me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
