“Wait on the Lord and be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!”

Ps 27:14

What if an opportunity arose for you to STEP into your promise? The question is, “Did God really create the opportunity, or is it temptation to move ahead of God?

David had a similar dilemma. He was anointed to be king in his youth, Gods promise to him.  Nevertheless, Saul was still king and he wanted David killed because of that promise; for the Spirit of the Lord was powerfully upon David. (1Sam 16:12-13)

Much of David’s young adult life was running from King Saul. If Saul had his way, no way would David be king, no way would he walk into his promise, or his “increase.”

Moreover, an opportunity arose for David to kill Saul, when in a dark cave alone, Saul was unaware and in a helpless situation. Showing undeserved mercy, David cuts a piece of Saul’s garment instead. Feeling guilty, he runs out to confess to Saul what he did, saying he could never hurt “Gods anointed.” A stark difference from the heart of Saul. (1 Sam 24:4-15)

David chose to wait for God; killing Saul might have brought him relief, but it wasn’t the right way to enter his promise.

Our patience is “refined” in difficult times when frustration comes from waiting.  David was frustrated. Every day he ran for his life, as Saul’s massive army hunted him down. (James 1:3)

Finally, another opportunity arises for David to kill Saul -this one better than the first! David could annihilate Saul and his men camping out, lured into a deep sleep by the Lord. (1 Sam 26:8-12)

Instead, David realizes that if the Lord promises it, He alone would deliver it. God had a plan and he would wait it out; keep going until God delivers it. And the Lord never breaks a promise. (Ps 89:34, Heb 6:18-20)

“But God forbid that I should kill the man he has chosen to be king… Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.” (1 Sam26:11, Ps 199:133ESV)

Patience is a virtue we all must strive for, we cannot “hurry” God along. He doesn’t need our help, His plan is better than ours, His timing is better than ours. We must have faith as David did.

Our values must coincide with Gods Word. David knew it would be wrong to kill Saul, and he didn’t want to step outside of Gods will. If you step outside of Gods will, like Saul, you might never see Gods promise. (1 Sam 15:10-11)

We must allow God to be our strength in tough times, so the devil cannot tempt us with what “looks” like Gods will to enter our promise.

“Those who WAIT on the Lord shall renew their strength…For I know the thoughts that I think towards you…thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Isa 40:31, Jer29:11)

God’s promise for you IF you accept Him as Lord and Savior: Salvation. Its free because Christ paid an enormous price for us, our debts are FORGIVEN. We are REDEEMED by Jesus’s death, and our faith in Him frees us from the penalty of sin.

Salvation Plan

If you don’t know Him, let today be the day. Or there’s no promise for you, no REAL future. But everlasting destruction. Yet, in the end, every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ IS LORD! (Phil 2:10)

If you are ready, say this starting prayer: confess it with your mouth and believe it with your heart.

Dear Lord, I know that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose to give me life. Right now Jesus, I turn from my sins opening my heart and life for You to come in. I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus name, Amen. (Romans 10:9-10)
