Then I lay down and slept in peace and woke up safely, for the Lord was watching over me. And now, although ten thousand enemies surround me on every side, I am not afraid.

Ps 3:5-6

Honestly, the earliest most days I can get to sleep is 11pm. I would love to go sooner, but that’s not my life. Thank the Lord He allows me to survive with 6 -7hrs and a 15min power nap during the day.

Rest is highly important and should never be overlooked. It’s important for weight loss, energy, focus, etc., so I get as much as the Lord provides me.

God replenishes us through rest. A well-rested body can do its work for Christ; you have clarity of mind to hear the Holy Spirit better.

What happens when you are unrested?

Well, it can cause you to get overly dramatic, like Elijah? In 1 Kings chapter 18, Elijah the Prophet has just finished making a fool of the false idol worshipers of baal, killing all 450 baal prophets. In the same day, he saw that rain had returned to the land from the ongoing drought. From there, the hand of the Lord was upon him and he outran King Ahab to the city, who was miles ahead by chariot.

Within that time, Queen Jezebel threatens Elijah’s life and he flees in fear, going a day’s journey into the wilderness. He was so exhausted and unrested from running, that he became dramatic, even senseless. Sitting under a broom tree he said, “This is enough! Lord, take my life!” (1Kings19)

If you wear yourself out to the point where you no longer care, you discover how Elijah felt. Rest is needed for this difficult life. It is senseless for us to work so hard from dusk to dawn – for God wants His loved ones to rest.

Just when Elijah thought he could go no more, the Lord sent an angel to feed him in his weariness. Two times the angel came to Elijah giving him baked cakes and water, allowing him to sleep. (Ps.127:2, 1Kings 19)

Will

The Lord knew the journey He had for Elijah was great, He knows how great yours is too. When we take the time God allows us to rest, He brings restoration. Elijah was depressed and wanted to end his life, but God was patient with him.

Will you rest tonight? “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I WILL give you rest…For my yoke is easy and my burden light.” Rest assured in Christ – sleep! “In this world you WILL have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world,” says the Lord.   (Matt11:28,30, John10:33)

Are you tired, depressed, broken? Look no further than Christ Jesus. He knows who YOU ARE, He LOVES YOU. Will you accept Him into your life today, to give you peace, rest and healing? If you are ready, say this starting prayer. Confess it with your mouth and believe it with your heart.

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now Lord, I turn from my sins opening my heart and life for You to come in. I receive you Jesus, as my Lord and Savior. Thank You God for saving me. In Jesus Christ holy name. Amen.
