Be Still

Attention

Everyone is looking for attention nowadays.  It’s estimated that 1 in every 4 adults have some level of depression. I believe that everyone at some point in their life has been in a state of depression. I’ve been depressed before. In fact, there are examples of people in the bible, who were so depressed, they wanted to die, but God was available impress them with His presence and comfort.

In the book of 1 Kings 19 the prophet Elijah asked God to kill him, because he thought there was no hope – that he was the last prophet alive. Queen Jezebel, who ruled over Israel with her husband King Ahab, threatened to take his life so Elijah ran and hid in the wilderness, but God wanted him to just “be still and know” that He is God!

An angel told him to get up and eat – Elijah was starving. God had a meal prepared for him in the wilderness – in the midst of despair. He was too weak, so God provided for him and strengthened him. God knows how much we can take.

And the bible tells us in 1 Kings 19:11:12 that:

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

1 Kings 19:11-12

God met him where he was. God said to Elijah,

“You are not alone I have 7000 in Israel, who have not bowed down to Baal.”

Elijah forgot for a minute that God was on his side. Our victories are in God alone. Elijah saw God do amazing miracles and works through him and this same was able to deliver him through this trial as well.

“If God be for us who can be against us”

Romans 5:18

“But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

The only reason you got to this point in your life is because you went through the wilderness.  It is in the wilderness, where the Lord refines us with His fire and turns broken vessels into precious stones. It where He provides for us, like Elijah and prepares us for His good work like John the Baptist.

People are looking for a sense of belonging and community, searching for hope, searching and scrolling for so many things, but only one thing is needed and that’s God alone. Why? Because God has the whole world in His hands and if we have God, then we have everything.

We need to “be still” today and I’m not talking about standing in one place, but our faith and values need to be settled and firmly established on what the bible says. We can’t shrink back. Christians need to remember who we are supposed to be.  Compromise, is the reason why many Christians vote the way that they do and imitate ungodly people.

There’s a great lack of self-worth in our world today and disregard for others. Try merging on the freeway, some people would rather have you drive off of a cliff, than allow you to get in front of them. Too many people find their identity in superficial things like, achievements, race and ethnicity, styles of clothes, and labels that other people have placed on them, but if we find our identity in Jesus Christ, then our identity has eternal value.

Yes, in a sense your ethnic background and where you came from is important, but is that as good as it gets? Politicians use these ethnic identities to exploit minorities for their own evil agendas. Will we continue to be squeezed into these tiny boxes?

What if where you came from wasn’t all that great? There are many things that we can learn from our past, but God wants you to know that He wants to do a new thing in your life. You don’t have to be subject to the bad labels and the evil things that your parents said about you, or your family said about you.  God says you are more than that. God says, “Be still and depend on me to fulfill you!”

As Christians, we don’t depend on government to support us with a stimulus check and universal income. We don’t look to Dr. Fauci for truth, we judge everything, by the unchanging standard of the word of God!

Being Still

We have to trust in and depend on God to be our help, our defender, our Way Maker, our Miracle Worker. Jesus Christ is our peace, our strength and our hope! We must surrender those areas in our lives to God, that cause us to take our eyes off of Him. When we do this we can never lose a battle.

The Bible says in Psalms 46:8-11

8 Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. 10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” 11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Yes, our world is messed up and the bible tells us that things will only get worse, but God is in total control and these things are not a surprise to Him. Be still!

Whatever you are going to do for Christ, do it now, because Jesus is coming! Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, or a year from now. Just be ready to meet Him!

This is the blessed hope!

Salvation Plan

Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:

God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
