Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.James 1:21 NIV
Does This Offend You?
Jesus asked His disciples a very important question at a pivotal time in His ministry. All of John’s disciples and many followers who had been following Jesus, stopped following Him, because they said His words were “too difficult”.
The bible says,
61When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, “Does this offend you? 62What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before?63It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. 65And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”
What do you say?
Does James 1:21 offend you?
Most people are ok with the bible, when it comes to the “Golden rule”; “In everything, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. (Matthew 7:12)”, but when it comes to truly living a holy life, the world immediately rejects God’s word, by trying to justify their lifestyle.
Romans chapter 1 says,
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,Romans 1:18
Which parts of the bible have you set aside to fit your version of Christianity? Do you still believe that all of God’s word is inspired by the Holy Spirit? In the times that we live in, this scripture in James is so necessary. It tells us what to get rid of and keep away from, but it also tells us what to accept.
Anything that offends God’s word must be rejected. Let these verses penetrate your heart today and let us examine ourselves according to the word of God. Also, make sure that the church you attend believes, that ALL scripture is God-breathed and inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:
God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
