The Importance of Discipline
“If we never have headaches when rebuking our children, we shall have plenty of heartaches when they grow up.” -Charles Spurgeon
The importance of discipline is one of those things that you cannot get away from, as a parent.
How many times do we have to tell our children to do something?
And how many times have you went to go check to see IF they did it, only to find it half or not done at all?
How many times do we have to tell our kids to say, “please and thank you?”
How many times have we said, shaking our heads, “Why did you do that?“
The list can go on. But we love our children and want them to be their best.
Children NEED discipline. We can’t neglect this aspect of child up bringing. And many disagree with this.
Many times, I am able to discipline by taking things away from my daughters. I don’t have to use other methods because they know not to go further than they have from past disciplinary actions.
“For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” Hebrews 12:6
It means you lovingly show them the right way, and there are MANY ways to do this.
Some of our children might have a rebellious nature that takes a bit more molding and love from us, the parents.
As much as we love our kids and teens, we cannot be the push around parent.
God didn’t make us to be bossed around by a kid or teen, who have no idea what God’s Word says about raising them.
We must rely on God, His Holy Spirit, and the Word to guide us to discipline our children.
God loves us so much that even He disciplines those He loves. We as parents should do the same.
“God is interested in developing your character. At times He lets you proceed, but He will never let you go too far without discipline to bring you back. In your relationship with God, He may let you make a wrong decision. Then the Spirit of God causes you to recognize that it is not God’s will. He guides you back to the right path.” – Henry Blackaby
