Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
Colossians 3:5-10
Sometimes I hear people claiming to be Christians and out of the same mouth using filthy language. As a Christian, your speech must be pure, before the world and before God. We represent Jesus Christ, so we have to live as though we’re taking Jesus everywhere we go because we are.
Our language should not contain curse words, sexually explicit speech, harsh criticism, hatred, or anything else that does not produce the love of God. We are new creatures. The old person has passed away and you have become a new person. I would like you to underline filthy language, but there’s more.
The scriptures say that God’s wrath is coming on the world because of all of these things: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry anger, rage, malice, slander, habitual lying, and filthy language from your lips. Believe it or not, this is the shortlist, but it’s a start.
God loves us so much that He has given us the power to be like Him through Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable. The Bible tells us to be imitators of God. Lastly, it commands us to deny the flesh from evil desires.
How will you represent God today? Consider His love for you and don’t take His grace for granted (2 Corinthians 6:1-2). Our salvation cost Jesus His life.
Salvation Plan
Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:
God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
