He said, “My soul is overwhelmed, and (in other versions it says ‘crushed, consumed, deeply grieved) exceedingly sorrowful to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

Matthew 26:38

Agony

Christ experienced agony, that the bible describes as almost, impossible for a human being to endure and still make it to the cross and that was before He went to the cross.

3 times He asked if there were any other way. He says, “Let this cup pass from me, but no let your will be done no matter what!” He didn’t stop going to the Father for deliverance. 3 Times!

He was also teaching His disciples, that it’s not about if you’ll suffer, but when you suffer. They needed to know what to do with their agony, grief, pain, and fear. See, we have to go to the Father – our heavenly Father! Jesus taught them by personal experience.

Luke 22:44 says,

He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.”

Luke 22:44

Suffering

Some of you are suffering, getting hit left and right and your grief sometimes overwhelms your peace. You have a wife in the hospital with Covid-19, or you have a husband with Covid-19. Many of you lost someone to this disease and some of your family members died, because they felt that if they went to the hospital for their condition, they would die from Covid-19, so they stayed home, so that at least they wouldn’t have to die alone.

Many of you are asking, “What did I do?”, “What did they do to deserve be so sick?”, “What did they do to die?”, and “It’s not fair!”

God is not against us!

And I’m going to say this, but it’s not easy to say and it doesn’t feel good, but Jesus said, “In this life, you will have trouble, buy take heart, I have already overcome the world.”

He said, “I know because I hated the very thought of the death I had to suffer (emphasis added).” He says, “Getting rid of death, was the reason why I had died for you (emphasis added).”

The Innocent for the Guilty

Jesus was innocent, we were guilty. He did nothing wrong, but He was slapped in the face. He did nothing wrong, but He was beaten over and over again.

Then they hammered those long metal nails through His hands and nailed His feet together, with one nail through the cross.  The bible says, “He’s able to relate to those who suffer and that He is right there. He’s near to the broken hearted! (paraphrase)”

He says, “I Know what you’re facing.” And although we have to face the crushing effects of the death of a loved one, we have the hope of new life and those who are in Christ can see each other again. Death is not the end for a Christian, it’s the beginning.

If you have a loved one in the hospital, suffering from Covid-19, or cancer, or any other sickness. It’s not over! You cannot stop praying! I don’t care if the doctor says there’s no hope! It doesn’t matter how bad things look. You have to believe that miracles do happen, and a miracle can happen for you!

God’s healing can come with or without medicine. Jesus didn’t stop praying. He kept praying to the father, but at the end of it all, He said, “Not my will, but your will Father”.

Some way, some how, I’ll never know how He does it, but He makes everything work together, for the purpose of His ultimate will and for our good.

God is able and He’s still in control!
