Stand

Stand

46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? 47 I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49 But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

Luke 6:46-49

The bible teaches us to stand on the Rock, who is Jesus Christ Himself and the Church is built on this Rock.

We have no other foundation to stand on, but Jesus Christ. Anything else that you build your life and your faith on will crumble and you will fall.

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 6:11

You cannot stand without God’s armor, that prepares you for spiritual battle. If you do not put on the armor of God, satan will sweep you off your feet.

We’ll see what the armor is in just a second, but what are the wiles of the Devil?

Wiles of the Devil – the methods; the different means, plans and schemes used to deceive, entrap, enslave, and ruin the souls of people.

Stand No Matter What

In Genesis chapter 37 Jacob’s sons sold their brother Joseph for 20 pieces of silver to be a slave in Egypt, but because he stood for righteousness, he became a ruler of Egypt.

Judas, one of the 12 disciples sold Jesus the Son of God, to be killed for 30 pieces of silver, but God raised Jesus from the dead as the “King of kings and the Lord of lords”.

The 3 Hebrew boys took a stand when King Nebuchadnezzar wanted them to take a knee and bow down to his false idol, but when they refused the king turned up the heat in his fiery furnace and tossed them in, but God was in the fire with them causing them to stand up and walk around in the fire.

Because these men stood for their faith, God delivered them and the king being amazed said, “Anybody who disrespects their God will be put to death, because there is not other God that can deliver like their God!”

This wicked king was able to say that, but what are you saying about God. Do you truly believe that God is the only one who can deliver you?

What are we standing on? What are we believing today? Can we stand in the lions den, like the prophet Daniel? Can we stand in a filthy pit, like the prophet Jeremiah?

Can you stand when it seems like nobody else is standing for anything good? Can you help a Christian brother or sister stand?

If you are not standing for righteousness, if you are not standing for biblical truth, if you are not standing for what’s right, then the only thing you can help someone else do, is fall!

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [b]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

Ephesians 6:13-18

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

2 Corinthians 4:7

Culture Influencing the Church

Cohabitation

The share of U.S. adults who are currently married has declined modestly in recent decades, from 58% in 1995 to 53% today.

Young adults are particularly accepting of cohabitation – 78% of those ages 18 to 29 say it’s acceptable for an unmarried couple to live together, even if they don’t plan to get married – but majorities across age groups share this view.

What does God say about cohabitation?

God tells Adam:

 Genesis 2:24

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

 From <https://www.biblehub.com/genesis/2-24.htm>

Jesus goes even further!

 Matthew 19:4-6

4And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who [a]made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

 From <https://www.biblehub.com/nkjv/matthew/19.htm>

Paul Says the same thing!

Ephesians 5:31“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

 From <https://www.biblehub.com/ephesians/5-31.htm>

A man shall be joined to his wife, not his girlfriend, boyfriend, or husband and the same for women.

Premarital sex

Half of Christians say casual sex – defined in the survey as sex between consenting adults who are not in a committed romantic relationship – is sometimes or always acceptable.

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

Hebrews 13:4

Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

1 Corinthians 7:8-9

For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.

1 Thessalonians 4:7

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

Ephesians 5:3

Only 73% of pastor believe that transgender identity is morally wrong. Some Christians would say that’s pretty good, but shouldn’t that be 100%!

It’s not good when we consider the Equality Act H.R.5 In this bill, the Democrats want to remove your religious rights as a Christian. They seek to force you to accept homosexuality, transgenderism, multiple gender categories. They want you to financially support sex changes with your tax dollars. To take it a step further, they want to criminalize your free speech based on these lifestyles and control what Christians preach from the bible.

But what do we do? Stand on God’s word?

Salvation Plan

Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:

God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
