1“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
Matthew 6:1-4
A Woman of God
In the book of 2 Kings chapter 4, the prophet Elisha met a wealthy woman and her husband, who were devoted to the Lord. She had the heart of God and as soon as she saw the man of God, she told her husband that they should take care of him.
8 One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food. 9 And she said to her husband, “Behold now, I know that this is a holy man of God who is continually passing our way. 10 Let us make a small room on the roof with walls and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there.”
2 Kings 4:8-10
As time went on, Elisha had a desire to return the favor.
14 “What can be done for her?” Elisha asked.
Gehazi said, “She has no son, and her husband is old.”
15 Then Elisha said, “Call her.” So he called her, and she stood in the doorway. 16 “About this time next year,” Elisha said, “you will hold a son in your arms.”
“No, my lord!” she objected. “Please, man of God, don’t mislead your servant!”
17 But the woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had told her.
2 Kings 4:14-17
A Blessing From the Man of God
There’s more to this account, but at this time God used prophets to perform certain works by His power. God compelled Elisha to bless this family with the special blessing – a son that they were never able to have, even in their old age. She had money, so God gave her a special gift.
Without even asking her, the Shunamite woman took care of the man of God. She didn’t run through the streets telling everybody, “Hey, look, I’m taking care of Elisha the prophet! Look how close I am to God!” No, She saw a need and walked into such a tremendous blessing, that it was hard to believe.
God Has Not Forgotten
We don’t have to tell everyone we know about all the good things we do for others, or record our acts of kindness, to satisfy people’s misguided, self-righteous expectations. Jesus warns, that if we do this, we have already received our reward on earth.
God can see that you’ve been faithful. He has not forgotten about you. “Your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly…” Keep the right attitude and in everything, do it to the glory of God.
The bible says,
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
Galatians 6:9
God is into surprises and He will bless you when you least expect it!
Salvation Plan
Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:
God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
