“The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. 19 As the Scriptures say,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”
20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.

1 Corinthians 1:18-21

It’s too Simple

God has made it simple. God has made it plain to them. So when someone rejects the gospel and claims to be wise in their decision, they should be embarrassed. Not only do they reject Jesus, but many mock Him and blaspheme His name. Wow, 2000 years and Jesus is still that important!

Yet scripture says they are headed toward destruction because there is no alternative that can deliver them from the condemnation that comes from sin. God says that the world’s wisdom is foolishness; their eyes are blind; their philosophies cause them to fumble over each other; and they’re only left with the pitiful result of redefining the meaning of good and evil to try and make themselves feel safe. Their condemnation is justified.

Societies justify the detestable sins of the wicked and persecute the righteous. Judges purposefully abuse the law for a bribe or political favors. Presidents force the acceptance of Sodom and Gomorrah lifestyles, even upon children. Romans 1 tells us that “they are without excuse.”

The Wise Have Become Foolish

Jesus has come in the flesh, to die in our place – the righteous for sinners. He saw the hope that stood before Him, that millions upon millions would be rescued from death and receive eternal life. Then three days after He died God raised Him from the dead. This is the gospel.

It’s so simple a child can understand and believe, yet it’s so powerful that it causes the drunk to become sober; the sick to become well; the immoral to become pure; and causes the dead to come alive. The gospel is the power of God to those who have allowed Jesus to transform their lives. Human wisdom could never reach God.

No philosopher can think long enough, no scholar can study hard enough, and no debator can argue good enough to overcome the omniscient wisdom of Almighty God. Therefore He has used our foolish preaching to save those who will be willing to acknowledge their sins, repent and believe in Jesus Christ. Use the power that God has given you through the gospel to win willing souls.

Salvation Plan

Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:

God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
