Again, warning comes before destruction.
The people of Judah had just been captured by Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar, after years of continual disobedience to God. Forewarned by the Prophet Jeremiah, they were exiled to the land of Babylon for 70 years. (Jeremiah 29:10)
However, there were still some people left in the city and surrounding areas, still bad and just as wicked. In fact, they were proud of themselves for not being captured. Jeremiah questioned God as why these people were not punished, as they were very prideful and unchanging. (Jeremiah 24)
The Lord gave Jeremiah a vision of two baskets of figs: the first basket had very good “just ripe” figs, and the other had bad figs -so bad they could not be eaten.
“The good figs represent the exiles sent to Babylon. I have done it for their good.”
The people who were captured had already begun to repent and were coming back to the Lord. So, God promised good treatment for them, as they returned to God, He would return them to their land.
However, the bad figs, so bad that they were useless, were all those left in Jerusalem uncaptured. They were “spoiled figs.” So rotten, that even if they were killed, suffered poverty, or plagues -they would never change.
So, the Lord cursed them, and vowed to destroy them all. (Jeremiah 24)
Sometimes, even after our greatest efforts to compel some people in the knowledge of God, they just will not come. They had seen the miracles of Jesus as He performed them, yet they crucified Him.
Today is the same. There are some very bad figs out there, some rotten to the core. Yet, the Lord is being patient with them, allowing repentance.
God is sovereign, almighty, all knowing. Don’t be misled by the world, you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. (Galatians 6:7)
Some people might feel like they are too “messed up” to come to Jesus. “Let me get it together first!”
Gods people suffered the consequences of their actions many times. We still do, yet, God sent His only begotten son to die on the cross for us. (John 3:16)
We “were utterly helpless, with no way of escape. Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners who had no use for Him.”
You see, even if we were good, we couldn’t expect someone to die for us, but Jesus, in His great love for you and me, died for us while we WERE sinners.
He has declared us NOT GUILTY; He will save us from the wrath that’s to come on the world. Good things await those who put their trust in Him.
By Jesus blood, we have been JUSTIFIED! (Romans 5:6-11 TLB)
Therefore, no one can be too “messed up” to come to Jesus. Only by His blood are you and I reconciled to Christ.
Even when things seem to be going in the favor of our enemies, the Lord doesn’t want us to be anxious. Soon, He will make all things right, He will rule and reign amongst us, and the enemy within this world WILL be defeated. Whose side will you be on? (Phil 4:6-8, Gal 6:7)
“Am I a God near at hand and not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, so I shall not see him? Do I not fill heaven and earth?” Says the Lord. (Jeremiah 23:23-24)
If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior today, now is the time. Jesus is coming soon and everything as you know it will change. It is appointed to man to die once, and after that -JUDGMENT; so, Christ died only once as an offering for our sins, but at His second coming, it will not be for “sins,” but to bring SALVATION to those EAGERLY awaiting Him. (Hebrews 27:28)
If you are ready, say this starting prayer: confess it with your mouth and believe it with your heart.
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose to give me life. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins opening my heart and life for You to come in. I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.
Now, if possible, get to your nearest Bible preaching church and receive the support you need.
