If you are looking for a great family Bible study, join us in one of our family Bible study topics! Go through the beatitudes with your family, using these detailed lessons below.

Family Bible Study Topic: The Beatitudes

The Beatitudes start off a section in The Book of Matthew called the Sermon on the Mount.

The Beatitudes, or Blessings, are like an introduction to the rest of the chapters in Matthew.

Each beatitude looks at different circumstances of life and how all Christians are blessed through our faith. Jesus teaches us virtues and values in life that will result in blessings and rewards as we walk in His will. These blessings are applicable to every Christian, following Jesus Christ.

We are to store up our riches in heaven! Matt 6:19-21

In these short daily lessons, we will go through all 8 Beatitudes, and your children will receive one Beatitude a day as a memory Verse.

You can also use the “My Beatitudes Book” to help your children (ages 5+ and teens) remember their memory verses and get access to The Plan as well as the full Beatitude Lessons with included family discussion questions.

Matthew 5:1-2

Gospel of Matthew

Matthew 5:3

God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

The poor in spirit are those who feel a deep sense of spiritual need and realize their emptiness before God. The kingdom of heaven is theirs, because they seek it, and find it, they also abide in it.

The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people–robbers, evildoers, adulterers–or even like this tax collector. (Luke 18:11)

We must empty ourselves of ourselves before we can receive God’s promise.

Matthew 5:4

God blesses those who mourn,

For they will be comforted.

God is our ONLY comforter, and you cannot receive the comfort of God until you receive the Holy Spirit.

The blessing is not just upon all that mourn, but those who mourn in reference to sin. We are comforted by the discovery and acceptance of God’s pardon, Jesus Christ dying on the Cross for us.

Romans 12:9 “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”

2 Peter 2:8 “Yes, Lot was a righteous man who was tormented in his soul by the wickedness he saw and heard day after day.”

Matthew 5:5

God blesses those who are humble,

For they will inherit the whole earth.

Humbleness is trusting that God will take care of you, no matter what. As Christians, we stand up for what is right, and don’t seek revenge.  Our battles are fought by God.

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
