What are the events that happed after Jesus was resurrected? How is Jesus working in your life today? In Today’s Devotion, let’s discover the amazing and surprising day after the resurrection of Jesus.

After His resurrection, [1]Jesus appeared to His disciples and other followers over a period of 40 days. Here are some amazing and surprising things events that occurred:

Surprising His followers

Jesus appeared to His followers, including those who were skeptical about the resurrection. He appeared to the women near the tomb and later at least twice to the disciples while they were gathered at a house in prayer. He also visited two of the disciples on the [2]road to Emmaus.

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.” John 20:19-20

Preaching and Miracles After The Resurrection

Jesus continued to preach and perform miracles. For instance, He performed His last recorded miracle, overwhelming the disciples’ fishing nets with a huge catch. This caught the Disciples off guard, and they were surprised to see Jesus standing on the shore.

This was the day after the resurrection and Jesus had already “threw down” on the grill – making fish for breakfast. Jesus reminded His disciples about everything He had done before His death and taught them many other things.

Faith Resurrections

When Jesus rose from the dead the disciple’s faith was resurrected. They found renewed purpose, power, hope, and even a hot meal. You can say that Jesus knows how to eat. Many of His messages were related to food and eating. Yet, He did many other things miracles too!

“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” John 21:25

The Lord Reinstates Peter

Peter, who had denied knowing Jesus three times during His trial after He was arrested, was questioned by Jesus three times. It is during this questioning that Jesus gives Peter the famous charge to “Feed my sheep”:

“When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!” John 21:15-25

God of Grace

Our God is the God of grace, and that means, that He blesses us even though we didn’t earn the blessings, and He provides for us because He loves us as His children. God wants to meet you at His table. He wants to spend time with you. How long has it been since you really spent intimate time with God?

Commissioned After The Resurrection

Jesus then gave us the “Great Commission,” His instructions to His disciples and to us: go out into the world and spread the good news of salvation!

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20

God Is Not Limited!

God is not limited to what country you live in, or to what you can bring to the table. He is our Heavenly Father, who richly supplies us with every good thing if we delight in Him!

These blessings that He gives are not only based on money and material things, either. God knows what we don’t know we need, even before we need it. God even sometimes gives us what we haven’t asked for. He is intentional about everything He does and He knows us better than we know ourselves.

His Work Never Ends

These events served to confirm His resurrection and prepare His disciples for His ascension into heaven. However, the work of Jesus Christ did not end when He rose from the dead and ascended to His throne. It continued through His apostles and now through His church – the Body of Christ. We must continue His work and finish it – individually and collectively. Even so, Lord Jesus, come!

Salvation Plan

Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:

God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
