Today’s Live Inspired message helps us understand the real power of intercessory prayers by looking at the faith of Abraham in Genesis 18–19.
Abraham’s Intercessory Prayers Saved His Family
In the Bible, we see a powerful example of intercessory prayer when Abraham pleaded with God to spare the righteous in Sodom and Gomorrah. His bold prayers were not for himself, but for others specifically his family. Through his faithful intercession, Lot and his household were rescued from destruction.
However, in the midst of being saved, Lot’s wife looked back, longing for what used to be. Her hesitation revealed that her heart was still tied to a life God was delivering her from. In that moment, she turned into a pillar of salt, losing everything, including her life (Genesis 18–19).

Join In!Many people today try to live what they consider a “godly” lifestyle, but without Christ.
How does that happen?
- They avoid reading God’s Word.
- They lack a genuine prayer life.
- They do not have a personal relationship with Jesus.
Instead, they pick up a few encouraging scriptures here and there, saying, “This will get me through!” But faith in Christ is more than just feel-good moments. It is a relationship, not a ritual.
Lot’s wife missed her salvation because she wasn’t ready. Jesus warns us to always be ready and watching.
“The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. But only five of them were wise enough to fill their lamps with oil, while the other five were foolish and forgot.
…
‘Later the others also came. “Lord, Lord,” they said, “open the door for us!” But he replied, “Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.”
Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.’”
– Matthew 25:1–13
This parable shows us that many who think they are ready will not be. Salvation is not about works or tradition alone, it is about having a personal relationship with Christ that is vibrant, sincere, and daily.
Paul, a man of great faith and ministry, said this:
“I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”
– 1 Corinthians 9:27
Even Paul humbled himself, knowing the weight of spiritual accountability. Today, many do not realize that the mercy and delay in judgment on this world is because the church is still here, praying and interceding.
The Spirit of God is working through His Church. As believers intercede for this broken world, standing in the gap, we ask the Lord for mercy, another chance, another day for the lost to repent.
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land…” – Ezekiel 22:30
While we are watching and praying, the greater enemy is being held back. The Lord is patient, but His return draws near.
So Church, continue in obedience:
- Rejoice always
- Pray without ceasing
- Give thanks in all things
(1 Thessalonians 5:16–18)
Be a watchman on the wall (Ezekiel 33:7), faithful in intercessory prayer, crying out not just for your family, but for your city, nation, and the lost.
If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, be warned, He will return at a time when it may be too late to come to Him.
“For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”
– 1 Thessalonians 5:2“…God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled… when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven…”
– 2 Thessalonians 1:6–7“…They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”
– 2 Thessalonians 2:10
Don’t be left behind.
Jesus loves you. He’s waiting for you.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
– John 3:16–17
There is no fear in coming to Christ. He has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to receive salvation through Him.
“For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
– 1 Thessalonians 5:9
That’s real love.
Will you allow the love of Christ into your heart today?
Salvation Plan
Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:
God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
