I sat in the chair for what seemed like hours, waiting for that darn loading button to stop.

My website crashed on me.

Boy I hated when that happened.

An outdated plugin had crashed the back end, and I went through a series of coding and everything I had read, learned, and watched trying to get it back open.

I gave the greatest sigh I could ever give, and thought, at least the front end still works. At least people can still come, read and buy.

I just couldn’t do anything until my tech discovered what the problem was.

It was in that moment, that the words of Dr. Charles Stanley, popped into my head.

H.A.L.T.

“Okay, what!” You might be asking, let’s take it one letter at a time. Each letter represents a feeling, that must be defeated with prayer and praise to God; it is after all, how we fight our battles! Once we do this, God can give us clarity and peace through our situations.

Hungry

What happens when you are hungry, especially really hungry? You become angry, or as some will call hangry. Seriously, don’t ask me anything when I feel this way. It is at this point, where I must ask God to give me strength and patience.

Angry

Anger is a killer. Unless it’s righteous anger, we cannot dwell in this place. The Bible tells us to “Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm.” Ps 37:8

Also, James 1:20 is something I pray constantly, Lord help me to be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger,” because, “ the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”

Lonely

Ever felt lonely?

In times of loneliness, we really must pray. The enemy loves when you feel this way because it gives him an opportunity to taunt you, making you feel unloved, alone, and depressed.

How many people has he done this to today? Many!

Loneliness can lead to despair. It can also lead to anger; you can find yourself mad and angry at people who did nothing to you. You might even get upset at someone who you wanted to be friends with but has completely ignored you.

This feeling is defeated with prayer and praise. And when you start to feel this way, you need to do this immediately. Give the enemy no foot hold!

Remember that Jesus is always with you. He will never leave you or forsake you. He has given us the Great Comforter, His Holy Spirit.

“No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.” John 14:18

Jesus says in John 16:33,

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Tired

When we are tired, we can lose track of our thinking, and the things we do. God gives us rest for a reason, it revives our body and strengthens us.

Ever heard a tired baby cry?

When they cry, there is almost no way to stop them. They become fed up with food, fed up with their clothes, with their diapers, with your cooing and kisses. They are even fed up with you. It takes a long time to calm a tired baby down and usually, they cry themselves to sleep because there is nothing you can do to stop them.

Just like a baby needs their rest, so do we!
We tend to lash out when we are tired and are easily irritated. We all like to burn that midnight oil, but at some point, if you don’t stop, you are going to wear yourself out.

“In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves.” Psalms 127:2

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.” Psalms 4:8

So, rest. Give yourself a break, go to sleep. Pray, sing to God and start a new day!

Remember that when you feel any of these things: hungry, angry, tired or lonely, H.A.L.T.

Praise and pray. Ask God to give you peace, clarity of mind and to help you move forward.

If you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and would like for these things to apply to you, in your life, to encourage and strengthen you, lets pray:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose to give me life. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins opening my heart and life for You to come in. I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.
