21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
John 14:21-23
We always tell our kids, “Be on your best behavior! You never know when we’ll do something fun!” The reason is that if they had bad behavior, they wouldn’t be able to participate with us, and they would regret it.
Jesus tells us that if we obey His commandments then we love Him. Then, He will show Himself to us. How? In verse 23, He says, “My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” When the Father and the Son, Jesus Christ comes to rest inside of you, through the Holy Spirit, He does incredible things in your life to give you personal evidence that He is with you.
Experience God’s Love
Jeremiah 33:3 says,
‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
Jeremiah 33:3
Sometimes my wife and I make special hot chocolate, pop some popcorn, bake delicious treats, and have a movie night with our kids, but if one of our kids is in trouble, they miss out on some or all of these privileges. They ask for a chance to have the punishment taken away, and although we forgive them, the consequences remain. This is the same discipline God uses to discipline His sons and daughters in Christ.
Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return. 8The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
Galatians 6:7-8
God loves you, and He wants to show His love to you, but you have to show your love to Him to experience eternal life and all of the many blessings He has waiting for you. How does Jesus know that we love Him? Jesus says, “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.” We don’t just try to do good to get rewards. We obey God’s word because Jesus first loved us; therefore, we love Him by what we say and do. If we mess us the Bible says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).”
Obedience is urgent.
Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.
Romans 12:1
Salvation Plan
Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:
God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
