Alliances play a crucial role in our lives. We might find ourselves aligning with people we work with, family members, or business partners. These alliances are important because we need like-minded people on our side for advice, help, friendships, or prosperity. They are supposed to benefit both parties. But what happens when you align yourself with the wrong people or community? In Today’s devotion, we discuss: “Who are you making an alliance with?” The truth about your risky new alliance.
Ephraim is like a dove,
silly and without sense,
calling to Egypt, going to Assyria.
12 As they go, I will spread over them my net;
I will bring them down like birds of the heavens;
I will discipline them according to the report made to their congregation.
13 Woe to them, for they have strayed from me!
Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against me!
I would redeem them,
but they speak lies against me.Hosea 7:11-13
Toxic Alliances
In Hosea 11, God displays His anger in Israel for not only rebelling against him, but also their toxic alliances to other nations outside of His will. Their alliances to these nations made them depend solely on their alliance and not the provision or protection from God, leaving them exposed to God’s anger and to the enemy.
Bringing In Foreign Gods
Whenever the Israelite nation made an alliance with another country or nation, that country or nation brought their foreign gods and idolatry into Israel. They would acknowledge the gods of that nation, and not the Living God. Their idolatry spread before the presence of God, as they worshipped their false gods. (Hosea 7:8-9)
Don’t Choose Pride Over God
Even though Israel knew their alliances to these nations were wrong, their pride would not allow them to return to God, so that He would have mercy on them. Thus, God’s judgement was announced in Israel in Hosea 9.
And the pride of Israel testifies to his face,
But they do not return to the Lord their God,
Nor seek Him for all this… The days of punishment have come;
The days of recompense have come.Hosea 7:10, 9:7
Who are you making an alliance with today?
Who are you aligning or positioning yourself with in friendships, relationships, social media influencers, and music?
If you align yourself with the wrong people, they can steal you away from God with their idols.
The Bible tells us that we are to be careful who we align ourselves with, but instead, align ourselves with Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (John 14:23, 17:21), and for His perfect will to be done in our life.
Do not enter the path of the wicked… And do not walk in the way of evil… Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?
Proverbs 4:14, 2 Corinthians 6:14
Salvation Plan
Today, if you have not received Salvation or you would like to rededicate your life back to Christ, say this prayer:
God, I know that I am a sinner. Right now, Lord, I turn from my sins, and I ask you to forgive me. Jesus, I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the grave, for me. I open my heart and life for You to come in, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, God for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
