How To Be ‘Tricked’ Over Halloween

Now, I’m going to say this in love and much grace, but something’s wrong here. Many in the church have been tricked over Halloween.
Christians are still celebrating Halloween: dressing their kids up like ghosts, witches, zombies, vampires, and so-called positive alternative characters, because “It’s so cute.” They allow their kids to carry around plastic Jack O’ Lantern cauldrons to be filled with candy.

Some churches even hold events where they pass out candy and allow the kids to dress up and they call it outreach, but if you’re not giving people the Gospel of Jesus Christ, then it’s not outreach. The pandemic has caused people to think twice, but it hasn’t changed their mindsets.

Who’s on the Guest list?

Not a Holiday!

I’m not concerned about pushback on this issue. I do not believe Christians should participate in a Halloween celebration, which is not a holiday, because “holiday” means “holy day” and there’s nothing holy about this celebration.

Businesses don’t care about what you believe, or even what the holiday is. They only care about your money and Christians make them rich every year, because of compromise.

The Occult

The pagan origin of this celebration involved Celtic Druid pagans dressing up in scary costumes, to blend in with, and trick disturbed spirits. They believed these spirits were stuck between the realm of the living and the dead. Pagans believed if they treated the spirits with candy, food, and valuable things, then the spirits would leave them alone. They are where we get carving scary faces into pumpkins – Jack O’ lanterns. The pagans also believed if they didn’t, they would be tricked, or harmed. This is where we get the phrase, “Trick or Treat.”

The little plastic containers, with the handles, may look innocent, but these represent what the witches use to cast spells on children and people. Witches set aside this day to do seances, conjuring spirits, blood sacrifice, and other traditions. They also mock Christians who participate and try to enter their homes, spiritually, through witchcraft, to attack them and their children.

I remember back in the ’90s, hearing about kidnappings on Halloween. Witches used kids for their ceremonies. They still do it, but many choose aborted babies, or get pregnant to sacrifice their own children!

You Can Let it Go!

Just look around! Everything about Halloween is depicted as dark and scary. Stores and workplaces set up props with skeletons, skulls, demons, mummies, ghouls, witches, graveyards, and more. Why? That’s because they consciously know what Halloween is all about! How are Christians any different from the world? If we celebrate death alongside the death culture, then why would people value life, if we don’t?

I’m challenging you to challenge your beliefs, celebrations, and traditions. Don’t just do things, because of tradition, or because everyone else is doing it and you don’t want to be singled out. YOU are the Christian! We’re supposed to be set apart from the world. You are the Parent! Don’t allow your children to take part in these rituals, even if they’ve done it in the past. We are in this world, but not of it!

Here are 8 Biblical reasons why no Christian should celebrate Halloween:

1. John 3:19
   This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
2. Romans 13:11-14
   And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So, let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
3. Ephesians 6:12
   12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
4. Colossians 1:13
   13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
5. 1 Peter 2:9
   9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
6. 1 John 1:5-6
   5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7. 1 Thessalonians 5:4-5
   5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
8. Romans 12:2
   2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

As Christians, we don’t fear the devil, witches, or any other demonic activity, because Jesus has already delivered us from the powers of darkness. “We have not been given the spirit of fear, but power, love, and a sound mind.” Just don’t give the devil a foothold!

If you’re going to be anything on October 31st, be a Christian. Use this day and every day as an opportunity to win souls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
